New Band Alert: joan

Fans of LANY and The 1975 will swoon over this on-the-rise Nashville indie-pop duo named "joan". Ian Thomas and Steven Rutherford have paired up to create a sound that merges a number of well-loved influences. Some eighties synth elements can be picked up- as well as integration of electric paired with soothing, toned-down vocals that reminisce of Paul Klein of LANY. The group told Milk.XYZ that "When we started this, we wanted to do something that had a modern feel to it but was definitely reflective of what we grew up on. We feel like it came out naturally, not stuck in the retro field but having a definite modern twist." That comes across very evidently in all three of their released tracks. "love somebody like you" has what it takes to become a cross-genre hit, nailing perspective in pop and indie realms. The duo's songwriting is so clear and consistent for a new artist. Thomas and Rutherford know exactly what this group's purpose is and it is only a matter of time until they hit it big. Be sure to check out their new track "tokyo" and stay tuned for upcoming tour announcements!
