New Band Alert: Marsicans
If you have been looking for music that is equally as brilliant as it is entertaining, look no further. Marsicans, pronounced “MAR-sick-anz,” is a band of four from Leeds. They have been taking the British music world by storm and have been featured by both BBC Introducing and BBC Radio 1 on several occasions. Marsicans consists of James Newbigging on lead vocals and guitar, Rob Brander on bass and vocals, Oliver Jameson on guitar, keys, and vocals and Matthew “Cale” McHale on drums and vocals. The band has created both an entertaining social media presence and original bops that never disappoint. Over the past four years, they have put out their debut LP, Absence, along with The Chivalry EP, and upwards of ten singles. Combining what they call “upbeat indie” and “dirty pop,” Marsicans have created a sound that is both colorful and endearing. Songs of theirs, such as Throw Ourselves In and Too Good, can create a cheery environment in seconds, evoking strong urgencies to break out in dance. You can catch them at both of the Reading and Leeds festivals this weekend, or at any of their shows in Ireland and the UK this fall.
