New Music Alert: Halsey

Yesterday, alternative-pop superstar Halsey released a brand new single entitled "Without Me", her first solo work since June 2017's "Hopeless Fountain Kingdom". The track is a bold break-up anthem and explores her experience with having a relationship be perceived by the public eye. Lyrically, the track explores how poorly she was treated in a relationship, even when she was supporting her partner through thick and thin. The chorus so beautifully expresses this as "Tell me, how's it feel sittin' up there? Feeling so high, but too far away to hold me. You know I'm the one who put you up there. Name in the sky, does it ever get lonely?"

It feels like a refreshing and raw track for Halsey, who told Apple Beats 1's Zane Lowe that the song "is really me talking about my life. It kind of gave me like an existential crisis as an artist a little bit, because I’ve prided myself on being an artist who’s authentic.”

Her whirlwind relationship with hip-hop artist G-Eazy is obviously speculated as the inspiration for the lyrics. Halsey continued regarding that topic by saying, “You don’t belong to anybody but yourself and you know you’re not bound to anything.”

The single is supposed to be a stand-alone work she adds- saying this song is a separation between her albums and the personas she ties with each album.
