New Music Alert: Oakman
Oakman, a three-piece band from Lyon, France released their second pop-punk EP “Plastic World” this past Thursday. Although from France, their lead singer Marine writes and sings in English about relationships, unsaid words, love, nature, and hope. Inspired by Basement, Citizen, Manchester Orchestra, and The Wonder Years, this five-song EP is a lovely mix of emotion and truth. Marine’s powerful and moving voice makes the songs unique and touching in their own way.
Previously in 2016, Oakman released an EP titled “Waterscape” which features another four amazing pop-punk songs. The growth between “Waterscape” and “Plastic World” is phenomenal. It is very obvious that Oakman is growing and learning with each day while creating songs that mean something to them along with songs that should be meaningful to us, the listeners. That being said, Oakman definitely should be your next favorite pop-punk band. Though there are countless other pop-punk bands in our scene today, Oakman’s mix of sounds and styles for each song stands out from the rest. These sounds create a new perspective on the world and how everyday events affect us.
Personally, my favorite on the EP is “Clear Enough”. Oakman released this song in August along with an official music video. This song is definitely a wonderful first track of the EP which introduces the vibe for the rest of the songs. It is a powerful song for a powerful EP. After discovering this EP the other day, I have streamed “Clear Enough” more times than I can count on my two hands. And who knows, maybe you will do the same as well.
