This summer, roots band JD & The Straight Shot is touring the United States with fellow singer-songwriters Matt Costa and Matt Hartke.
The upcoming tour is presented by SiriusXM Coffee House, an acoustic music channel for fans of Vance Joy, Hozier, and the Lumineers.

GMAT: What were the band’s greatest influences, musical and otherwise, while writing and putting together “The Great Divide”?
MC: Crosby Stills Nash and The Allman Brothers are two for sure.
GMAT: How would you describe JD & The Straight Shot’s music to someone who’s never heard it before?
MC: American roots music.
GMAT: What’s your favorite track on “The Great Divide”?
MC: I love "Dead Men Tell No Tales." It has this swampy blues vibe that a blast to play.
GMAT: Your song “Violet’s Song” was featured on the "August: Osage County” film soundtrack. What was that experience like?
MC: An honor all the way. It was amazing hearing our song in such a fantastic film.
GMAT: Who is your dream collaborator?
MC: Any of the Beatles.
GMAT: What made the band decide to go completely acoustic?
MC: We had been doing acoustic stuff on radio shows while on tour and we had such a good time with it, we decided to go full-on acoustic.
GMAT: Do you have a favorite on-stage moment to share?
MC: Any time we’ve opened for The Eagles!
GMAT: What are you most looking forward to on JD & The Straight Shot's upcoming Tour?
MC: I’m looking forward to reaching some new fans. The Matts are talented guys so I’m also looking forward to hearing them play and hopefully getting some time to hang together too. (Check out tour details here)
GMAT: I know it’s early since “The Great Divide” was recently released, but what musical direction do you see the band going in next?
MC: Oh wow. I have no idea. I think it’s too early to answer that.
