Makeout '2.0' - Pop Punk Band Moves On, Finds New Singer
At the beginning of the year it was announced that Sam Boxold, previous member and lead singer of Makeout, would no longer be a part of the band. This left fans worried about the future of Makeout and if the band would continue on.
As it turned out though Tyler Young, lead guitarist, and Scott Eckel, drums, were on the hunt for a new singer. They held auditions and received over 500 submissions from people wanting to take on the role. On March 27, 2019 a link was posted on their Twitter page claiming they had picked the finalists and it was time for the fans to vote for who they wanted as the new singer of Makeout. The band opened the voting polls for one week and got over 30,000 votes. After almost six months of waiting, it has been finally announced who has been chosen.
After several interviews and rehearsals the band unanimously agrees that Kyle Dee was the perfect fit for the next chapter in the band’s career. Kyle was on season 11 of American Idol and used to be the lead singer for The Frantic. Not only was Kyle a new addition to the band, but they also added a bassist, AJ Khah, who was previously a member of the band Sleep On It. In an interview Kyle stated that he has always been a huge fan of Makeout and realizes he has some big shoes to fill, but he is up for the challenge and exited for the future. Tyler stated that after Sam left they knew the bar had been set high, but Kyle’s talent as a vocalist, writer and guitar player has added many new and improved dynamics to the band. Tyler also said that from the moment they stepped into rehearsals with Kyle and AJ it all just clicked and felt like they had been playing together for years.
Makeout has decided to retire the song “Secrets" - Young stated in an interview with Alternative Press : “None of the current members of the band had anything to do with the writing or decision to release the song. We feel that it no longer represents who we are or what we stand for."
The band is working on new music with intentions to release a new single before the end of this year, and a full length album in 2020.
Makeout will playing two shows at end of the year:
12/12/19 - Reggie’s in Chicago, IL
