Love Fame Tragedy Gets Intimate in Chicago
Last weekend I got the chance to check out Love Fame Tragedy at the Subterranean! Love Fame Tragedy is The Wombats’ Matthew Murphy’s debut solo project. His first EP titled I Don’t Want To Play The Victim, But I'm Really Good At It was released earlier this month and we got the chance to hear the EP front to back during this intimate show at one of Chicago’s best-known small venues.
The trio took the stage with open arms from the audience. With catchy lyrics, acoustic and electric guitars, and Murphy’s voice, the EP has a perfect indie-pop vibe to it that one can’t help but listen to on repeat. Nine songs in and the crowd is looking forward to hearing their first single “My Cheating Heart.” The synths start, the crowd screams, and for that three minutes and eighteen seconds, everyone is dancing, singing, and wondering why the band doesn’t have more than ten songs recorded because we could’ve stayed there all night! With no more songs to sing so there’s no chance for an encore, Murphy tells us all "goodnight" and we all go home wondering when we’ll be able to hear them perform live again – at least that’s what I was thinking.
