Matt and Kim Celebrate 10 Years of 'Grand' in Baltimore with The Frights

On November 23, Brooklyn indie electronic duo Matt and Kim visited Baltimore’s Rams Head Live! for one of the last few stops on their 'Grand 10 Year Celebration Tour.'

The Grand album, which included the hit song “Daylight” plus other Matt and Kim show staples like “Good Ol’ Fashion Nightmare” and “Lessons Learned” turned 10 this year, and with that came a cross-country tour of the U.S. The tour included various openers for the various sections of the country, with The Frights being the chosen ones for this last stretch of east-coast shows, including Baltimore, Maryland.

The venue was already densely packed when The Frights started their set, with the crowd filling the floor as well as the balcony. Despite a few sound-board issues towards the beginning of their set, they managed to sort it out and put on a great performance. Their surf-punk sound was a good way to warm up the crowd and get people to start moving around.

When it was time for Matt and Kim to take the stage, the energy in the room was unparalleled. These two know how to turn a show into a party, and the crowd did not let them down. Of course, it’s cliché for bands to come out and say “this is the best crowd of the tour!” every night, but Matt and Kim truly looked to be genuinely surprised and in awe and just so appreciative of how great the crowd participation was.

All the normal Matt and Kim shenanigans were out in full force, with balloons, blow-up dolls, confetti, and a room full of good, high energy fun. They started the show by playing the Grand album in full, but told the crowd “This is just the warm-up!” letting them know they weren’t just stopping there, as they went on to play another ten or so songs from their catalog of albums and singles since Grand. The crowd didn’t slow down either, as they moshed and jumped around from start to finish.

As the Grand anniversary tour wraps up, I think it’s safe to say Matt and Kim threw their baby one hell of a tenth birthday party.
