Capital Cities’ Sebu Shaves Iconic Beard for New Solo Video
As half of indie pop duo Capital Cities, Sebu Simonian became one of the faces of the prolific radio-friendly indie pop genre of the early 2010s. The 2013 infectious love anthem “Safe and Sound” topped charts and secured a Grammy nomination for the Armenian-American musician.
Besides his success in singing, songwriting, and producing, Sebu is also known for his impressive beard, which Rolling Stone declared the best beard of the 2014 Coachella Festival. His latest video, however, sees him making the ultimate transformation—shaving off his iconic beard on camera, revealing a bare-faced Sebu.
The rest of the video for “Have You Ever Hurt Somebody” plays out the relationship, break up, and make up between a couple played by himself and Armenian singer Sirusho, who features on the song. With over half a million views and counting, fans of the two artists are clearly loving this latest partnership. This is Sebu and Sirusho’s second collaboration, after Sebu produced and featured on Sirusho’s Armenian and English language track, “Vuy Aman”.
Fans of Sebu’s exquisite facial hair need not fret—the singer revealed that he “shot the video nine months before it came out. The beard is totally back.” He will be releasing an acoustic and remix version of “Have You Ever Hurt Somebody” in the next few weeks, and will follow with his debut solo album, Many Faces.
