MYRKUR Releases "Leaves of Yggdrasil"
The Danish composer and multi-instrumentalist Amalie Bruun, recently released a new single and music video for her song "Leaves of Yggdrasil" as her folk-metal project MYRKUR. This is just in time before the March 20th release of her third full-length LP, Folkesange.
This new LP focuses on the spirit, sound, and feeling of Scandinavian traditional roots. Throughout this lullaby-esque melody that incorporates the sounds of piano, violin, nyckelharpa, and lyre. For this music video, it is unlike what Brunn is known for. Instead of her normal nature settings, she opted to change it up by switching gears with filmmaker Mats Ek for a more surreal alternative universe filled with colors and shadows touching upon a more darker feeling.

"I wrote 'Leaves of Yggdrasil' about being apart from the one you love because of circumstances that are completely out of your control. The Norns weave the fates of Gods and man and sometimes that means very tough life situations. I wanted to create a song with the feeling of an old folk tale, but with words that resonated with my own life today." Amalie Brunn told Revolver Magazine about her new single.
For those wondering, MYRKUR is Icelandic for darkness which is fitting for her project due to its hauntingly beautiful, mystical, pagan, folk, and black metal sound. Her songs range from light to dark and brings your mind into another space of existence. Words can't fully describe what MYRKUR's sound is, thats up for you to decide.
