X. ARI Releases "BSMI" (Broke Single and Mentally Ill)
The electro-pop artist and songwriter X. ARI recently released the music video for her latest single "BSMI". The video was co-directed by X. ARI and Andrew Marks and choreography by Raul Machorro. This video shows X. ARI dancing and fighting with someone in a black tight suit representing mental illness and the constant battle as she goes about her day trying to find some hope.
“I came up with the song title “Broke, Single, and Mentally Ill (BSMI)” when I was depressed and couldn’t get out of bed one day,” X. ARI explains. “While languishing I came up with a music video concept. I felt my light come back and I hopped out of bed with excitement. The next day I wrote the song with Mark Rudin, which is the definition of turning pain into power, my mantra and message for mental health awareness.”
Born in Toronto, Canada perfectly goes between the lines of the genre by moving between alternative pop and a bit of gritty hip hop. Her messages are through her powerful lyrics and beautiful voice of hope and pondered tragedy.
Last June she had released her third EP, Uni-Fi which she dedicated to mental health awareness and was produced by Midi Jones. For that EP, her release party was hosted by the National Alliance of Mental Illness (NAMI) in LA. Since this release, she has gone to schools to speak about mental health awareness.
